Cannonballs coming: Pirates get some strong pitching in rookie ball

Indianapolis and Altoona are off for their all-star breaks.

— Bradenton (42-41) lost to Lakeland, 4-1. With the higher level teams off, Clay Holmes started in order to stay on schedule to start in the Pirates’ doubleheader on Saturday. Holmes gave up a run on four hits, walking none and fanning eight. Mike Wallace gave up three unearned runs to take the loss. Sean Rodriguez played short and went 1-4. Bligh Madris and Mitchell Tolman each went 2-4. Jared Oliva was 0-2 with a walk.
