Minor league veteran utility man Darnell Sweeney was acquired from the Kansas City T-Bones of the independent American Association, where he’d hit 288/430/538 in 100 plate appearances this year.

Sweeney was a 13th round selection by the Dodgers in 2012 from Central Florida and after reaching Triple-A in 2015 was sent to the Phillies in the Chase Utley deal. He spent the rest of that year in the majors, hitting 176/286/353 and a year later was outrighted and became a minor league free agent, bouncing from the Dodgers to Reds to Blue Jays before signing with the independent league franchise in Kansas City this year.
