Pirates Place Pitcher Cory Luebke on DL, Call Up Rob Scahill

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced they placed pitcher Cory Luebke on the 15-day disabled list and promoted Rob Scahill to take his place in the bullpen. Luebke is going on the DL with tightness in his right hamstring. The move itself was made just before the Pirates played the Detroit Tigers Thursday.

The lefty Luebke had appeared in three games this season. He originally injured his hamstring in spring training, but recovered in time to make the Opening Day roster. In his first major league action since the 2012 season, Luebke appeared in three games this season. He struggled, giving up four hits, three earned walks and walking five batters in 3.1 innings of work.

Scahill was in Triple-A, but made only one appearance this year. He pitched a scoreless inning of work Sunday, but went on the paternity list. He spent last season with the Pirates and appeared in 28 games. The righty posted a 2.64 ERA in 30.2 innings last year.

Luebke is the second Pirate reliever to go on the DL this year. Right hander Jared Hughes was placed on the DL retroactive to March 25th earlier this year.
