The Penguins on Monday afternoon returned Tristan Jarry to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL. That move means Matt Murray is likely to at least back up — but likely start — Tuesday against the Islanders in Brooklyn.
Casey DeSmith is the only other goaltender on the Penguins roster.
“He had a real strong practice today,” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said of Murray following Monday’s practice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. “We’ll see how he responds and make decisions accordingly.”
Jarry returns to Wilkes-Barre in time for the Penguins’ road trip that begins Tuesday in Toronto. Jarry has a six-game winning streak at the AHL level and has gone 6-2-0 with a 2.
