Sun Bowl will be all about the replacements for Pitt on both sides of the ball

EL PASO, Texas -- Friday’s Sun Bowl will somewhat be an audition for many Pitt players, young and old.

In an unlikely contrast — though perhaps nowadays a bit more likely by the updated standards in today’s day and age of college football — of approaches to Friday’s Sun Bowl, the Panthers and Pat Narduzzi will forge on without six of its usual starters from NFL Draft opt-outs, plus more from either injury or entering the transfer portal.

"It's next-man-up mentality," safety Erick Hallett II said in advance of his final game as a Panther.
