Questions loom on fringe of Penguins’ defensive depth chart

With the NHL Entry Draft roughly a month away, the Penguins might be getting a hint on which direction they should go.

Over the past few weeks, reports have surfaced that two of their top defensive prospects — Lukas Bengtsson and Andrey Pedan — potentially could play overseas next season.

Bengtsson returning to his native Sweden to suit up for Linkoping HC of the Swedish Hockey League is a done deal, but there’s been no official word whether Pedan will play for Ak Bars Kazan in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League — as has been reported. Pedan was born in Lithuania but raised in Russia.
