CRANBERRY, Pa. -- The NHL Department of Player Safety has fined Jeff Petry $5,000 (maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement) for roughing Jonatan Berggren in Tuesday night's 6-2 preseason loss against the Red Wings, it was announced on Wednesday.
Petry was assessed a two-minute minor roughing penalty at 5:46 of the second period for punching Berggren in the back of the head.
I haven't come across a video of the incident, but it likely stemmed from frustration on Petry's end. On his previous shift, Petry got caught puck-watching Berggren in the corner before Berggren slipped a pass right through Petry's skates to a wide-open Elmer Söderblom on the doorstep for a goal.
