Penguins trade left winger Plotnikov to Coyotes

The Penguins have traded left winger Sergei Plotnikov to Arizona for minor-league forward Matthias Plachta and a conditional seventh-round draft choice in 2017.

Plachta, 24, is a 6 foot 2, 218-pound left winger who has two goals and five assists in 46 games with Springfield in the American Hockey League this season.

He is a native of Freiburg, Germany who played in his homeland before coming to North America this season.

Plotnikov, viewed as a possible linemate for Evgeni Malkin when he signed with the Penguins as a free agent last summer, had no goals and two assists in 32 games.
