Penguins sign center Jake Guentzel

The Penguins have signed center Jake Guentzel to a three-year, entry-level contract.

He is 5 feet 10, 167 pounds and was a third-round draft choice in 2013.

Guentzel, 21, had 119 points in 108 career games at Nebraska-Omaha before joining the Penguins' American Hockey Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre on an amateur tryout contract late in the regular season.

He had two goals and four assists in 11 regular-season games with the Baby Penguins, then added five goals and nine assists in 10 playoff games.

His 14 points were the second-highest total in the AHL through the first two rounds of the playoffs.
