Penguins recall Sprong, others from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

The Penguins officially recalled their “Black Aces.”

Defensemen Steve Oleksy, Tim Erixon, centers Dominik Simon, Jean-Sebastien Dea, right wingers Josh Archibald, Daniel Sprong, left winger Kael Mouillierat and goaltender Tristan Jarry were promoted from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs this week, the Penguins recalled the eight players unofficially dubbed “Black Aces.”

When an NHL team's AHL affiliate is no longer involved in the postseason, prospects and other minor leaguers under NHL contract are typically recalled in order to gain the benefit of being exposed to the environment of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
