The Penguins on Wednesday promoted Patrik Allvin to director of amateur scouting.

Allvin replaces Randy Sexton, who's now an assistant general manager with the Buffalo Sabres.

Allvin, 42, will oversee the Penguins' amateur scouting efforts in North America and Europe, reporting directly to assistant general manager Jason Karmanos.

After joining the Penguins as a European scout for the 2006-07 season, Allvin was promoted to head European scout in 2012. The Falun, Sweden native is entering his 12th season with the organization.

Allvin, a former defenseman, played in the same Leksands program as Ulf Samuelsson. In North American, Allvin played in the International Hockey League and the ECHL.
