TAMPA, Fla. — Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford was named a finalist Wednesday for the NHL’s general manager of the year award.
The other two are Brian MacLellan of the Washington Capitals and Jim Nill of the Dallas Stars.
Rutherford, in his second year as general manager, is credited with several key moves that have helped the team reach the Eastern Conference final.
His boldest move was hiring Mike Sullivan in December after firing Mike Johnston. He also made a splash in July, signing winger Phil Kessel before a flurry of offseason additions.
