Penguins moving ahead on plans to redevelop Civic Arena site

The Pittsburgh Penguins are in discussions with three companies interested in building a headquarters at the former Civic Arena site in the lower Hill District.

Penguins CEO David Morehouse declined to identify the potential tenants after a meeting this morning with Mayor Bill Peduto and Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.

The team is searching for new office tenants after financially struggling U.S. Steel dropped plans to build a new headquarters at the site last fall. Mr. Fitzgerald described the potential tenants as "pretty significant."

Today's meeting was the mayor was the first since the spring when he and the team clashed over the timetable for developing the 28-acre publicly owned site.
