Penguins' Maatta resumes practicing

Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta practiced today for the first time since suffering a suspected concussion Saturday.

Maatta wore a yellow non-contact jersey during the team's practice in Cranberry and primarily skated on a fourth or spare defensive pairing with defenseman Derrick Pouliot.

“I feel good,” Maatta said. “This is the first step towards playing for sure, practicing with the team. I'm happy with the progression I made.”

Maatta was injured when he was struck in the head by Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik in Game 2 of their second-round series. The NHL suspended Orpik three games for the hit.
