Penguins' Letang a finalist for Masterton Trophy

Penguins defenseman Kris Letang is a finalist for the Masterton Trophy, which recognizes “sportsmanship, perseverance and dedication to hockey.”

Two goalies, Andrew Hammond of Ottawa and Minnesota’s Devan Dubnyk, are the other finalists.

Letang missed the final seven games of the regular season and all of the Penguins’ first-round playoff series against the New York Rangers because of a concussion from which he still is recovering.

Letang, 28, also was the Penguins’ nominee in 2014, when he returned to the lineup two months after suffering a stroke.

Mario Lemieux (1993) and Lowell MacDonald (1973) have won the Masterton while playing for the Penguins.
