Penguins call up center Carter Rowney

BOSTON — The Penguins have recalled center Carter Rowney from their farm team in Wilkes-Barre.

Coach Mike Sullivan confirmed the move after the Penguins' game-day skate at TD Garden.

Rowney has 10 goals and 11 assists in 24 games with the Baby Penguins, including five goals and three assists in his past six games.

If Rowney, 27, plays in the Penguins' game against Boston tonight at 7:08, it would be his NHL debut.

He was summoned in the wake of injuries to center Evgeni Malkin and right winger Patric Hornqvist.

Malkin has been ruled out of the Bruins game, while Hornqvist seems optimistic about playing, although Sullivan called him a "game-time decision.
