NEW YORK — Penguins coach Mike Sullivan talked after Sunday’s game against Dallas about it being a blueprint for how to win.
The Penguins hoped to build on that Wednesday against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, and even did for long stretches.
But ultimately the defense that the Penguins showed in that game came unglued, and the Penguins suffered a 4-3 overtime loss after blowing leads of 2-0 and 3-2.
Mika Zibanejad won it with a short-side goal in overtime, the puck going off the post and off the back of Casey DeSmith’s elbow.
