Penguins assistant GM joins Shero in New Jersey

The New Jersey Devils have hired former Penguins assistant general manager Tom Fitzgerald in the same capacity.

Fitzgerald, 46, had been with the Penguins since 2007. Former Penguins general manager Ray Shero, now the Devils' general manager, hired Fitzgerald as director of player development in the 2007 offseason. After a brief stint as an assistant coach during the Pens' run to the Stanley Cup in 2009, Fitzgerald returned to a front office role as assistant to the general manager.

After Shero was fired by the Penguins in 2014, Fitzgerald was promoted to assistant general manager by current general manager Jim Rutherford.
