Penguins advance to Round 2 of playoffs with 6-3 win over Rangers

The Penguins are going to Round 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

They defeated the New York Rangers, 6-3, at Consol Energy Center today in Game 5 of their opening-round series.

The Penguins won the series, 4-1, and will face the survivor of the Washington-Philadelphia series in the next round.

The Capitals have a 3-2 edge, but have lost two in a row heading into Game 6 Sunday in Philadelphia.

They took control of the game during the second period, scoring four unanswered goals.

Winger Bryan Rust, whose status for the game had been uncertain because of an undisclosed injury, led their surge then, scoring two goals and adding an assist.
