Penalty kill plagues Penguins once again in 5-2 defeat

With the Penguins trailing 2-1 in the second period of Wednesday night’s eventual 5-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks, it appeared the team was at least headed for a moral victory.

After all the talk about their recent failures on the penalty kill — responsible for allowing multiple power play goals in four of the past five games — the Penguins were a mere two seconds away from killing off their first penalty of the night.

Then, former Penguins defenseman Derrick Pouliot — owner of two goals in 85 career games coming into the night — sent a wrist shot off Brian Dumoulin’s shin that ricocheted past Matt Murray and into the net.
