On this date in Penguins history: Rob Scuderi traded for Trevor Daley

On this date in 2015, Penguins GM Jim Rutherford pulled off one of his best moves, in a shocking deal, trading Rob Scuderi for Trevor Daley.

At the time, Scuderi was in the third year of a four-year, $13.5 million contract that was quite honestly, a disaster from the start.

There were massive efforts (from myself and others alike) for the team to buyout Scuderi’s contract following the 2014-15 season, but that didn’t happen.

The Penguins were sputtering in December of 2015, leading to the firing of head coach Mike Johnston.

Two days later, while the team was playing its first game under new head coach Mike Sullivan, the Penguins announced the trade deal.
