On this date in Penguins history: Kicking off the 2013 Playoffs with a shutout.

Flashback to the spring of 2013. The playoffs were starting later than usual because of the work stoppage that led to a shortened 48-game season.

The Penguins rolled through the regular season with 36-12 record and the first overall seed in the Eastern Conference.

First up for the Penguins this postseason were the quick and speedy New York Islanders.

Penguins fans were hoping for some success after their catastrophic failure a year prior against the Philadelphia Flyers and Game 1 did not disappoint.

Sidney Crosby would be out of the lineup while still recovering from a broken jaw suffered a month prior, but would return to action in Game 2 of the series.
