Nearing retirement, Mark Streit recalls last year's 'special' Stanley Cup run

Former Penguins defenseman Mark Streit made a surprise visit to the PPG Paints Arena press box Tuesday to witness the Penguins’ 2-1 overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers.

The 39-year-old is contemplating what to do next with his career after he refused an assignment to the AHL’s Laval Rocket, the Montreal Canadiens’ minor-league team. Turns out Streit was in town to pick up his Stanley Cup ring.

“It’s great to be back,” Streit said. “Pittsburgh was a special place for me. I have a lot of great memories.”

Some of those came this summer, as a result of what Streit accomplished with the Penguins.
