Josh Jooris, acquired at deadline, joins Penguins' forward mix

Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford acquired Josh Jooris as depth should something happen with his team's forwards.

It did.

Bryan Rust (upper-body) and Dominik Simon (lower-body) were hurt during Wednesday’s 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. The extent of their injuries is not known.

The Penguins recalled Jooris on Thursday afternoon, an indication that at least one — or both — could be out for Saturday’s game in Toronto.

Jooris, a center/wing, played in 31 NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes earlier this season, producing three goals and six points.

Jooris scored a goal in his only appearance with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton since the deadline deal, which sent center Greg McKegg to Carolina.
