Joe Starkey: NHL replay stinks — except when it helps you win a Stanley Cup

Replay in sports is an unchecked monster. It has all but murdered spontaneous celebration, sometimes fails to correct bad calls and often leads to brain-melting analysis as we comb through super slo-mo clips.

That’s the negative view, anyway, and I’m quite partial to it, if for no other reason than to preserve my sanity.

I nearly committed myself in the aftermath of the Patric Hornqvist goal/no-goal/goal/no-goal nightmare Sunday.

My God. What have we done? I thought NBC showed an eminently clear shot of a black hockey puck sitting beyond a red goal line with a patch of white ice in between the two.
