Jeff Zatkoff’s Stanley Cup playoff debut could not have gone better Wednesday night when he backstopped the Penguins to a series-opening 5-2 win against the New York Rangers, playing the game of his season.
He was an instant hero to the throngs who chanted his name in unison.
By Saturday, Zatkoff’s star returned to earth.
The Penguins lost, 4-2, to the Rangers on what were largely defensive breakdowns by his teammates who left him vulnerable on several occasions.
Still, Zatkoff insisted his confidence was not shaken and he will be prepared again if needed in Game 3.
