Gene Collier: Penguins facing a Fleury/Murray dilemma

Much as I’m loathe to make an issue where none really exists (snort), if Friday the 13th isn’t a good day to talk about who’s wearing the goalie mask, whenever shall we do it?

Every traditional indication would have you believe that Matt Murray will be in goal for Game 1 when the Penguins start the Eastern Conference final tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Consol Energy Center.

Murray exited the practice ice Thursday before the other goaltenders, a perk generally afforded the next game’s starter, and Marc-Andre Fleury said it was no secret that his 21-year-old understudy will start, while offering no theories on why neither coach Mike Sullivan nor general manager Jim Rutherford would say so.
