Evgeni Malkin, Carl Hagelin to miss Penguins-Capitals Game 1

Evgeni Malkin and Carl Hagelin will not play in Game 1 of the Penguins' second-round Stanley Cup playoff series against Washington, Mike Sullivan said after the team's practice Wednesday.

Both players skated on their own Wednesday morning, but neither participated in the team's practice at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry.

Malkin (lower body) was injured in the first period of Game 5 of the Penguins' first-round series against Philadelphia. He finished that contest, but missed Game 6.

Hagelin (upper body) was hurt in Game 6 on a check from Flyers winger Claude Giroux.

Game 1 between the Penguins and Capitals is set for 7 p.
