Sidney Crosby is the Penguins' nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which goes to the NHL player "who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."
Each of the league's 31 clubs nominates a player.
The winner, who will receive a $25,000 donation to the charity of his choice, will be selected by a panel of senior NHL executives, led by commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly.
Three finalists are scheduled to be announced in early August, with the winner to be made known on a still-to-be-determined date during the conference finals.
