Nick Bonino scored at 6:32 of overtime to give the Penguins a 4-3 victory against Washington at Consol Energy Center tonight.
His game-winner allowed the Penguins to survive the loss of a three-goal lead during the final 22 minutes of regulation. That included one stretch when they were penalized three times in 122 seconds for delay of game after shooting pucks over the glass.
That victory lifted the Penguins past the Capitals in their second-round playoff series and into the Eastern Conference final against Tampa Bay.
The Penguins, who are in the Eastern final for the first time since Boston swept them in 2013, will have home-ice advantage against the Lightning, but the schedule for that series was not immediately available.
