Pitt football coaches show up in Florida newsroom to recruit

Earlier this week, three Pitt football coaches took the unconventional step of showing up at the newsroom of the News-Press newspaper in Fort Myers, Florida, in an effort to recruit.

ESPN’s Darren Rovell called it a “boss recruiting move,” though the unorthodox visit was not without its detractors. One notable critic, who identified himself as the compliance director at James Madison University, went so far as to accuse the coaches of committing a recruiting violation.

However, Jerry DiPaola of TribLive.com later reported that no recruiting rules were broken, as the coaches “did not discuss the recruits with anyone from the newspaper.
