Levels of College Football, and Where Pitt Fits In

This post examines where each program naturally fits in the college football landscape, primarily how likely it is to be a National Championship contender, since that's the ultimate goal. Previous on the field success obviously has a lot to do with it, but more than that, it's also how much money each program is willing to spend, what conference they are in (if you aren't in a P5 program, forget it), and how long they've been successful, since many programs are hot for awhile, but only the truly elite are successful most of the time.

These ten programs are the highest level because they have everything it takes to be a national championship contender on an almost yearly basis, and have been that way for many decades, and with various coaches.
