Suns coach Monty Williams says he wasn't sending message, just 'stated the facts,' by citing foul discrepancy

It’s a time-honored bit of gamesmanship for coaches in the NBA playoffs to attempt to influence officiating during and between games of a playoff series.

Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, Gregg Popovich and many others have done it with varying degrees of success.

But Suns coach Monty Williams denied that was his intent Sunday night when he noted that one Bucks player (Giannis Antetokounmpo) shot 17 free throws and the entire Suns team shot only 16 in Game 3.

Or when he was asked later about how he could help center Deandre Ayton avoid getting in foul trouble.
