Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams talks about Sunday's loss at Memphis following the tragic death of Kobe Bryant. Arizona Republic
DALLAS – Monty Williams found himself wondering why he was coaching in a game when something far greater consumed him and his players’ minds and hearts.
“They’re thinking about something way more important than a basketball game and you’re sitting there trying to coach,” Williams said. “Sometimes you ask yourself, what are you doing?”
The Phoenix Suns lost Sunday at Memphis, 114-109, on a night the NBA and basketball fans worldwide mourned the loss of Kobe Bryant, who died at the age of 41 in a helicopter crash earlier that morning in Calabasas along with his oldest daughter, 13-year-old Gianna, and seven others.
