The NBA announced on Thursday Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton has been suspended 25 games for violating the league's anti-drug policy.

Ayton, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft by the Suns, violated the protocol by testing positive for a diuretic, according to the league..

His suspension will begin Friday when the Suns take on the Denver Nuggets.

Ayton had 18 points with 11 rebounds in the Suns' season-opening victory over the Sacramento Kings, 124-95.
