New Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams has a big fan in Kevin Durant.
The Golden State Warriors star gushed about Williams after the Suns announced his hiring last week.
“He’s a leader and a teacher," Durant told reporters, as recorded by the Mercury News' Mark Medina. "I’m excited he’s back into coaching and walking those sidelines again.”
Durant got to know Williams when the new Suns coach served as an assistant in Oklahoma City with the Thunder during the 2015-16 season.
It was Durant's last season there before going to the Warriors.
It was also a trying time for Williams after his wife was tragically killed in a head-on car collision.
