During this tumultuous time, should prominent athletes speak up or stay silent?

Should I say something?

It’s a question we ask ourselves almost daily. To the driver who cuts us off in traffic. To the person without a mask who gets a little too close to us in the grocery store. To the guy making a racist comment at party.

On a larger, more important issue, it’s what many prominent athletes, coaches and executives have been asking themselves since George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis policemen on May 25.

Some are speaking up. Some are not. Most, I’m guessing, are like Suns coach Monty Williams, who thought and prayed before deciding to share his feelings through an open letter written a few days ago and again in a conference call with reporters on Tuesday.
