Last season the winner of the coach of the year award was Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown. The Kings made their first playoff appearance since the 2005-06 season. They finished the season with the third best record in the western conference. The award normally goes to the coach of the team that made the biggest jump in wins from the previous year or has the perception of doing the most with the least amount of talent.
