The Coyotes are winning the special teams battle and winning games as a result

As much as rookie goaltender Adin Hill has helped the Coyotes along their current four-game win streak, a rejuvenated power play should get some of the credit.

You’ll often hear coaches and broadcasters talking about “winning the special teams battle” in an individual game. That means the team that nets the most goals on their power play and penalty kill has a much higher chance of winning the actual game.

The penalty kill has been at the root of the Coyotes' success during its positive stretches this season. Their 11 shorthanded goals (they scored another on Tuesday) are six more than any NHL team.
