Before Coyotes legend Shane Doan has his No. 19 jersey retired at Gila River Arena in February, the Ice Den in Scottsdale honored the longtime captain by renaming its west rink the “Shane Doan Rink” in a ceremony Sunday.
Doan, who retired prior to last season after 21 years with the Coyotes, said he’s spent more hours at the Ice Den than he could count. The west rink was sold out for the ceremony and a live stream was broadcast via Facebook. Coyotes television play-by-play voice Matt McConnell served as emcee.
“It’s pretty remarkable,” Doan told The Republic after the ceremony.
