Welcome back: Union braces for Eastern champion Toronto FC in home opener

The team that ended the Union's Major League Soccer season in October will help kick off the home opener when Toronto FC visits Talen Energy Stadium in Saturday's 4:30 p.m. match.

Last year, Toronto earned a 3-1 opening home playoff win over the Union. Toronto would eventually advance to the MLS Cup before losing in penalty kicks to the Seattle Sounders.

Another tidbit to the home opener is that both teams opened with scoreless draws, Toronto at Real Salt Lake last Saturday and the Union at Vancouver on Sunday.

"It's unique to have two teams coming off scoreless draws, but usually the beginning of the year the hardest thing to get going is the offensive side," Union coach Jim Curtin said earlier this week after a training session.
