From a development standpoint, the vital link between the Union First Team and the club’s First Class Academy was the core reasoning for launching an owned-and-operated USL club.
Truly speaking, when the Union announced the plans last Fall, the benefits seemed endless. Now six weeks into the Bethlehem Steel’s first season, the short-terms results are evident and you can already see the long-term plans in place.
Start with the First Team, which has already loaned nine different players to Steel at various points this season.
“Our guys will get valuable minutes there each and every week,” Union head coach Jim Curtin said back in March.
