It’s time for our weekly stat check. The Philadelphia Union defeated Orlando City on Friday night, 2-1, to move back into first place in the Eastern Conference. They currently sit in a tie with Montreal Impact, but lose the tiebreak based on goal differential. It is, of course, just the seventh week of the young MLS season, but it’s a positive start for Jim Curtin and the Union.
Let’s take a look at the Union through their first give games in the club’s seven-year history:
| Year | Record | Points (place) |
|---|---|---|
| 2010 | 1-4-0 | 3 (7th) |
| 2011 | 3-1-1 | 10 (1st) |
| 2012 | 1-3-1 | 4 (t-7th) |
| 2013 | 2-2-1 | 7 (5th) |
| 2014 | 1-1-3 | 6 (t-4th) |
| 2015 | 0-3-2 | 2 (t-9th) |
| 2016 | 3-2-0 | 9 (t-1st) |
Not a whole lot pops out from the team perspective, but it is a much-improved Union defense that has been leading the way.
