Stanford men's soccer beats Akron, 2-0, to return to NCAA title game

CHESTER, Pa. — The first match of Friday night’s NCAA men’s soccer College Cup at Talen Energy Stadium served as deja-vu for Stanford in more ways than one. The two-time defending national champions Cardinal were back in the national semifinals for a third straight season and once again found themselves face to face with Akron, the same team they defeated to reach the national championship in 2015.

The Zips entered their first College Cup since that devastating loss with revenge on their minds. Head coach Jared Embick said as much Thursday.

“I say, look, it’s a chance to show we can learn from our mistakes” in 2015, Embick told reporters.
