Goal.com released its Most Improved XI for MLS, and CJ Sapong was named to the list after his sensational 2017 campaign.
Sapong's 2017 saw him set numerous career marks, as well as break Union franchise records. A lot of the reason for his rise into the MLS elite comes from his 16 goals, which shattered his previous career high of nine. It only took 17 games for Sapong to record his ninth goal of the season and tie his career-high, and then broke his mark in the 21st game of the season. Sapong's 30 starts and 2,794 minutes set new career highs, and his five assists tied a career high.
