Derek MacKinnon broke a 1-1 tie in the 59th minute with a goal set up by Matt Crawford’s free kick to lead the Hawks to their third straight victory to open Atlantic 10 play.
It was the second straight match-winner for MacKinnon (Washington Township, N.J.) and came after the Hawks and George Mason traded first-half goals.
Mori Diane’s goal in the 23rd minute off an assist from Mike Stuski (Holland, Pa.) opened the scoring but Cullen Hunter headed home a corner from Henning Dirks to tie things up less than eight minutes later.
The Hawks improved to 6-5-1 with the victory and have started off their conference schedule with three straight wins for the first time since 2007.
