Richie Marquez's status is uncertain for Union this week

Union defender Richie Marquez, who suffered a concussion Saturday in a 2-1 loss at D.C. United, is likely to be cleared to play this week. But whether he sees action in the home game against the Portland Timbers was unclear, coach Jim Curtin said.

Marquez suffered the injury during the first half, played until halftime, and gave way to rookie Jack Elliott, who played in his first Major League Soccer match.

"Richie is going through protocol. It looks like he will be cleared in time for the game, and we have to make the decision knowing Richie hasn't had a full week of training," Curtin said Wednesday.
