After playing a scoreless first 73 minutes, CJ Sapong finally broke through. On a two on one, Sapong ripped a shot, which deflected off of Red Bull defender Long and found the back of the net for the Union's first goal of the game. Seven minutes later, Sapong was back at it again. After a cross from Fabian Herbers, Chris Pontius headed a ball across the net, which found its way to Sapong. Sapong headed it home for his second of the match. He got his chance to complete the hat-trick with a penalty in the 85th minute, and buried his shot in the bottom right corner.
