The season of dramatic endings continued Wednesday for the Philadelphia Union, as Roland Alberg's free kick in extra time crossed the goal line and saved the team from embarrassment in their US Open Cup opener. The defense relinquished a comfortable 2-0 lead before Alberg netted his second goal of the match, sending the Union to round of sixteen.
Fans were treated to some players they weren't used to seeing this year. Roland Alberg played the full 90 minutes, and Walter Restrepo played his first match replacing Chris Pontius. Fabian Herbers and John McCarthy also received their first starts of the season.
