Philadelphia Union earned an impressive 2-0 victory over the defending MLS champion Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday afternoon. In front of a crowd of 17,431 at Talen Energy Stadium, 2016 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake pitched his ninth shutout of the season as the Union won their ninth home match of the year.
The Union got going early with a ferocious attack in the Seattle zone. After multiple efforts, Philadelphia finally broke through in the 28th minute thanks to rookie Marcus Epps. After a last minute scratch to the starting XI, Epps replaced Chris Pontius, who was unavailable after experiencing tightness in his abdomen during pregame warmups.
